Coming Home

A few days ago, I was driving on a long 2-lane highway in the open desert land, going from Joshua Tree to the Majave Desert, with views that expanded miles to the jetted-rock mountains on both sides; the sky was clear, blue and bright. I was the only car there most of the way.

Ahhh. This is my element. I’m home. My spirit is free. Everything seems possible.

I got a glimpse of what much of Southern California must have looked like before humans developed tract homes and skyscrapers. Open space feels good to the soul. In the desert, I wake up to a sunny, clear sky every morning, which is uplifting to my mood. Sunny days bring me happiness. Even on the rare occasion that the sky is covered in clouds or is raining, it has its own beauty and is cherished; there is nothing gloomy about it.

In fact, in the desert, everyday is a beautiful day, full of possibilities. There is no gloomy day.

What drew me here, I'm not quite sure. It just feels good and freeing. I have had lives in this desert before. I don’t know how many, but so far I have experienced 3 past lives here as Native Americans. Maybe it's just coming back to familiar land.

Moving to the desert from the city is one of the most important decisions I’ve made in my life. No place I ever lived in before felt like home. I finally feel like I’m home. There is no other place on Earth I’d rather live in.

What is your “coming home” place? Has there been a place that your heart keeps going to?

Love and Blessing,
